Chiefs’ Isaiah Buggs Released from Contract After 2 Arrests in 1 Month
The Kansas City Chiefs have released defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs from his contract, a move that comes as no surprise given his recent legal troubles. Buggs was arrested in May on two misdemeanor warrants alleging animal cruelty, and then taken into custody again on June 16 on a domestic violence/burglary charge.

The 27-year-old had been out on bond following his May arrest, but a judge ordered his bond to be revoked in the wake of his most recent arrest. According to reports, police and animal control officers in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, discovered two dogs who had been left on a back porch at a home Buggs had rented and recently moved out of. Neither dog had access to food or water, and one of the dogs, a pit bull, was later euthanized at a nearby animal shelter.
“Trey Robinson, Buggs’ agent, denied the animal-related allegations against his client.” 1
Regarding the most recent arrest, reports allege Buggs broke into the apartment belonging to the mother of his child on June 16. Tuscaloosa police alleged he dragged Yamya Johnson down the stairs.

Buggs was a sixth-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. He spent three seasons with the team before signing with the Detroit Lions in 2022. The Chiefs signed Buggs to their practice squad ahead of their Week 18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in January. He didn’t suit up in that game or in any of Kansas City’s four playoff contests.

The reigning Super Bowl champions brought him back on a reserve/future contract before choosing to waive him. The move is likely a result of the team’s commitment to maintaining a positive image and avoiding any potential distractions.
