The Kansas City Chiefs can finally breathe a sigh of relief as defensive lineman BJ Thompson has been released from the hospital, four days after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest. According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Thompson’s agent Chris Turnage confirmed the news.

“The family thanks everyone for their prayers and wants to especially thank the Chiefs medical and training staff for their rapid response and professionalism throughout this situation,” Turnage said in a statement.
Thompson’s Scare
The incident occurred during a special teams meeting on Thursday, where Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest. Fortunately, the Chiefs’ medical staff were on hand to provide CPR, stabilizing Thompson before transporting him to the hospital.

Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder provided an update on Thompson’s condition on Friday, stating that while Thompson was initially sedated and placed on a ventilator Thursday night, by the next day he was “awake and alert.”

Thompson’s Background
Thompson, a 2023 fifth-round pick out of Stephen F. Austin, appeared in one game during his rookie season. The Chiefs are currently in Phase 3 of their voluntary offseason program, with mandatory minicamp scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
