Can the Chargers Dethrone the Chiefs in 2024?

The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for the 2024 season, and with it, the possibility of making NFL history by securing a third consecutive Super Bowl victory. As training camp approaches, the excitement is palpable, and former NFL players are weighing in on the team’s chances.

Training camp is just around the corner

Former Raiders defensive end Akbar Gbajabiamila recently appeared on ‘The Rich Eisen Show’ to share his thoughts on the NFL and the Chiefs’ prospects. Gbajabiamila is confident that the Chiefs have what it takes to achieve a three-peat, citing their recent draft picks and the exceptional skills of quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

“I’m gonna go three-peat. It’s very likely that these guys got it; they just drafted speed again. We didn’t see that a lot last season… Patrick Mahomes just makes me excited.”

Gbajabiamila’s enthusiasm for the Chiefs is understandable, given their impressive performance in recent years. However, he also believes that one team has the potential to dethrone them: the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jim Harbaugh, the new head coach of the Chargers

“Okay, I will tell you, though, there’s one team that has the ability to maybe punch them (Chiefs) in the mouth and stop them from a three-peat,” said Gbajabiamila. “I like (Jim) Harbaugh, man. I really do… I mean, he wins everywhere.”

The Chargers, led by quarterback Justin Herbert and new head coach Jim Harbaugh, are poised for a strong season. While many critics still believe the Chiefs are the favorites to win, Gbajabiamila’s comments suggest that the Chargers could be the dark horse in the competition.
