Eagles’ Defense Looks to Bounce Back Under Vic Fangio’s Guidance
The Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive unit is poised for a resurgence under the guidance of new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. After a tumultuous 2023 season, the team is looking to put the past behind them and start anew.
A Season to Forget
Last year’s defensive coaching situation was a disaster. The Eagles started the campaign with Sean Desai as defensive coordinator, but midway through the season, head coach Nick Sirianni demoted Desai and elevated senior defensive assistant Matt Patricia to defensive play-caller. However, nothing seemed to work, and the Eagles’ season devolved.

A Fresh Start
With Desai and Patricia out, the Eagles have brought in Vic Fangio, defensive line coach Clint Hurtt, and others to revamp their defensive unit. Brandon Graham, entering his final year in the NFL, expressed his excitement about the new staff, particularly Clint Hurtt. “We’ve got a good coach in Clint,” he said. “I really think that last year we just didn’t… That’s what we didn’t have. We didn’t have all the right coaches in the right position, I would say.”

Graham also pointed out the inconsistencies in last year’s staff, particularly after Patricia took over. “You just noticed little stuff last year, certain stuff you weren’t on the same page about,” he said. “Just here and there, it would pop up, but it popped up in a big way in that last game.”
A New Era
The Eagles are looking to put the past behind them and start anew. With Fangio at the helm, the team is hoping to turn their defensive fortunes around. As Graham said, “I’m more excited just because we do got Fangio, somebody experienced, real, real good.”
