Mike Tomlin to Remain Steelers Head Coach Through 2027 Season
The Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to a three-year contract extension with head coach Mike Tomlin, ensuring his tenure will continue through the 2027 NFL season. This news comes after months of speculation surrounding Tomlin’s future in Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Coach Mike Tomlin to a three-year contract extension.
Tomlin, who had one more year on his deal, expressed his passion for coaching during his end-of-season press conference in mid-January. He stated that his passion for coaching had “intensified” and that he expected to receive an extension this offseason.
“I expect to be back, and I would imagine that those contract things are going to run their course,” Tomlin said.
Art Rooney II, the Steelers’ president, also expressed his intention to extend Tomlin’s contract. This move solidifies Tomlin’s position as the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach following Bill Belichick’s departure from the New England Patriots.
Mike Tomlin has been the Steelers’ head coach since the 2007 season.
Tomlin has led the Steelers to a 173-100-2 record in his 17 seasons as head coach, including a Super Bowl title during the 2008 season and an AFC championship during the 2010 campaign. Although much of his success came during the Ben Roethlisberger era, the Steelers have new hope under center with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields this year.
