NFL Network Shakeup: Michael Irvin Out, ‘NFL Total Access’ Cancelled

The NFL Network is undergoing a significant overhaul, with Michael Irvin being let go and the long-running show ‘NFL Total Access’ being cancelled after more than two decades on the air.

The network is in the midst of a major restructuring effort, with multiple layoffs and cost-cutting measures being implemented. This includes the departure of several high-profile personalities, including Irvin, who has been a staple of the network for many years.

Irvin, 58, has been on shaky ground with the network for some time, following an alleged incident at a Marriott Hotel during the Super Bowl in Arizona in 2023. He was suspended until September of that year, but returned to the network at the beginning of the regular season.

The cancellation of ‘NFL Total Access’ marks the end of an era for the network, which has been on the air since 2003. The show, which was hosted by Rich Eisen, was a marquee program for the network and will be replaced by ‘Insiders’, an afternoon program featuring reporters Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero.

The NFL Network is also shifting its programming, with ‘Good Morning Football’ moving from New York to Los Angeles. The show has taken a summer hiatus until late August, with only Jamie Erdahl committing to stay with the show as the three other hosts, Peter Schrager, Jason McCourty, and Kyle Brandt, have yet to signal if they will make the move.

The moves are part of a larger effort by the NFL Network to remake its programming and reduce costs. The network is in negotiations with ESPN over a potential deal that would see the Disney-owned network take on the NFL Network and other NFL Media properties, with the NFL receiving a minority stake in ESPN.

In other NFL news, the 2024 NFL Draft saw a number of players selected, including eight from Penn State. The Nittany Lions have a long history of producing NFL talent, with 46 players drafted in the last seven years.

The Jaguars were also active in the draft, selecting players such as Myles Cole, an edge defender from Texas Tech, and Brian Thomas Jr., a wide receiver from Louisiana State.

The NFL draft is always an exciting time for football fans, and this year’s draft was no exception. With the NFL Network undergoing significant changes, it will be interesting to see how the network adapts to its new reality.

The Jaguars are looking to build on their recent success, and their draft picks are a key part of that effort. With a strong draft class, the team is looking to make a deep playoff run in the coming season.

The NFL draft is a time of hope and optimism for football fans, and this year’s draft was no exception. With a number of talented players selected, the future looks bright for the NFL.
