The Houston Texans offense is looking supercharged on paper following the offseason additions of Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon. With Offensive Rookie of the Year-winning quarterback C.J. Stroud leading a group that includes Diggs, Mixon, newly paid Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz, Dameon Pierce, and John Metchie, the Texans boast weapons to threaten every level.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik noted that the weapons and offensive line continuity (if everyone can remain healthy) allow Houston to play any style. “It is really that, it takes all limits off whatever you need to do to win a game,” Slowik said Thursday, via the team’s official transcript. “If we feel like we need to throw the ball deep to win a game, we can do that. If we have to throw it short to win a game, we can do that. If we have to run the ball 40 times to win a game, we feel like we can do that. It just enables and empowers us to do whatever is necessary that given week to beat the opponent in front of us, and everybody on our offense, and really on our team right now, is all in on that and that is what is making this really fun.”
The Chicago Bears, on the other hand, have overhauled their wide receiver group in a big way over the past couple of years, which includes the acquisitions of DJ Moore and Keenan Allen (via trade) along with the selection of rookie Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick. The result is Chicago’s best receiver trio in franchise history, one that is also among the best in the NFL heading into the 2024 season.

ESPN’s Mike Clay has released his 2024 projections, including ranking every wide receiver room in the NFL. Where does Chicago’s wide receivers rank among the rest of the league?
The NFL teams’ salary cap situation is also looking interesting, with the Patriots, Commanders, and Jaguars having the most effective cap space. The Texans, on the other hand, have $17.97 million in effective cap space.

With the post-June 1 releases, teams are allowed to spread the dead-money charge out over two seasons to lessen the impact on their cap. For example, Russell Wilson’s post-June 1 release will take a $35.4 million dead cap charge this year and a $49.6 million charge in 2025.

The list of post-June 1 releases isn’t limited to players who have already been cut. There are a number of notable players who could find themselves on the free-agent market as soon as this weekend. Carolina Panthers running back Miles Sanders, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry, and New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore are players who have been cited as potential cut candidates.

The potential next group of free agents hitting the market will only add to the talent pool that is still available for teams to sign. Stephon Gilmore, Justin Simmons, Calais Campbell, Ryan Tannehill, and Micah Hyde are among the top free agents who have been looking for a new home for more than two months.
