Giving Back to the Community: NFL Pro Larrell Murchison Hosts Free Football Camp for Kids in Bladen County

Larrell Murchison, defensive end for the LA Rams, recently returned to his hometown of Elizabethtown to host a free football camp for kids in Bladen County. This marks the fourth year in a row that Murchison has organized the camp, which aims to provide young athletes with the opportunity to learn from an NFL pro and develop their skills on the field.

Murchison’s decision to host the camp stems from his own experiences as a young athlete. He recalls attending football camps hosted by NFL players, including Dez Bryant, and the positive impact it had on his life. “When I was younger, I used to come to the Dez Bryant’s camps and I was like, man, if I ever can make it that big, I want to do the same thing because I remember how it felt to meet an NFL player,” Murchison said.

The camp not only provides kids with the opportunity to learn from Murchison, but also from other NFL pros, including DJ Wonnum from the Carolina Panthers, Javonte Williams from the Denver Broncos, and Columbus County native Pharoah McKever from the Steelers.

For many of the kids attending the camp, it was their first time playing football. Jeremiah Johnson and Braylon Smith, two young athletes who attended the camp, were thrilled to meet Murchison and learn from him. “I just thank God for Mr. Larrell coming here and showing us everything that he has gave to us, giving back to the community,” Johnson said.

Murchison’s ultimate goal is to inspire the kids to be their best, both on and off the field. “Every one of these kids right here got the opportunity to be great, and that’s why I’m here: to tell them they can be,” Murchison said.

In addition to hosting the football camp, Murchison has also started a foundation called Never Without, which aims to provide school supplies to kids in Bladen County.
