NFL Season Preview: Young Receivers and Timeless Wisdom

The NFL season is just around the corner, and teams are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting year. For the Dallas Cowboys, the focus is on their wide receiver crew, with all eyes on Jalen Tolbert and Jalen Brooks to make a significant impact.

As the Cowboys kick off OTAs, the attention is not just because star CeeDee Lamb is expected to skip the voluntary workouts. Even when Lamb is on the field, the Cowboys have questions down the depth chart. Thirty-year-old No. 2 wideout Brandin Cooks looked like he lost a step last season, generating 54 catches for 657 yards – a career low for a season he played at least 15 games. Cooks did generate eight touchdowns but had 10 games of fewer than 40 yards.

“We expect all of those guys to make a jump,” wide receivers coach Robert Prince said. “It starts with [Jalen Tolbert]. He made a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2, and we expect the same thing to happen for him going into Year 3. And Jalen Brooks, he works hard and he’s one of those guys that’s always studying, and he can play all of the [WR] positions – so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do this year as well.”

Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers are gearing up to host a workshop on May 28 for diverse businesses about the preliminary steps to apply to be a vendor for the 2025 NFL Draft. The workshop aims to assist them in leveraging their business, navigating the NFL portal, and various opportunities through the NFL Supplier Diversity Program.

Tom Brady, who joined Jay-Z and Michael Rubin for a luncheon with six first-round NFL Draft picks, warned the young players about the dangers of prioritizing social media and branding over teamwork. “When you have 53 guys on the team, you think it’s about you. It ain’t about you. It’s about us,” Brady said sternly. “And the biggest problem I see with a lot of the young players today, you guys are making it too much about I and me. Because of social media, because of branding and all that. It’s fine… you’re not going to win.”
