Former NFL Star Jacoby Jones Passes Away at 40

The NFL community is mourning the loss of former star wide receiver Jacoby Jones, who passed away at the age of 40 at his home in New Orleans. Jones, who played for the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens, was a key contributor to the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory in 2012.

According to his family, Jones died in his sleep, and the cause of death has not been revealed. The news was met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from around the NFL.

Jones had a remarkable career, playing for several teams including the Texans, Ravens, San Diego Chargers, and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a fan favorite, known for his charisma and infectious enthusiasm on and off the field.

In 2012, Jones helped the Ravens secure their second Super Bowl title, scoring two touchdowns during the game - a 56-yard pass from quarterback Joe Flacco and a 108-yard kickoff return. The Ravens released a statement paying tribute to Jones, describing him as a unique individual who connected with everyone he met.

“We are completely heartbroken to learn about the passing of Jacoby Jones,” the Ravens said. “Jacoby had the unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered. His charisma, joy and love created a one-of-a-kind presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day.”

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh also shared his thoughts on Jones’ passing, saying, “I loved Jacoby Jones. We all did. His spirit, enthusiasm and love for people were powerful. He was a light. He was the cherished son of his loving mom, Ms. Emily. They were so close. He was a man of faith.”

After retiring from the NFL in 2017, Jones went on to join the coaching staff at Alabama State University in 2022.

The NFL Players Union released a statement expressing their condolences to Jones’ family, and the Houston Texans also shared their thoughts and prayers with the family.

Jones is survived by his mother, Emily, and his son, Little Jacoby. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched during his remarkable career.
