Remembering Larry Allen: A Legendary Cowboy
The dominant force on the Cowboys’ O-line
The NFL world is mourning the loss of a legend. Larry Allen, the Pro Football Hall of Fame offensive lineman, passed away suddenly on Sunday while on a family vacation in Mexico. He was just 52 years old.
Allen’s impressive career spanned 14 seasons, with 12 of those seasons spent with the Dallas Cowboys. He was a dominant force on the O-line, playing every position except center. His versatility and dependability earned him 11 Pro Bowl selections and six First-Team All-Pro nods.
“Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL,” the Cowboys said in a statement. “His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner.”
Allen’s incredible strength was a hallmark of his career
Allen’s impressive strength was on full display during his rookie year in 1994, when he chased down Saints linebacker Darion Conner after an interception, tackling him from behind to save a touchdown. The Monday Night Football announcers were blown away by Allen’s speed and quickness for his size.
Allen’s legacy extends beyond his impressive on-field accomplishments. He was a devoted husband to Janelle, whom he referred to as his heart and soul, and a loving father to his daughters Jayla and Loriana and son, Larry III.
Allen with his loving family
The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry.
Rest in peace, Larry Allen. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of Cowboys fans everywhere.
