Remembering Larry Allen: A Legendary NFL Career Cut Short
The NFL community is mourning the loss of Larry Allen, a legendary offensive lineman who played for the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. Allen passed away suddenly on Sunday while on vacation in Mexico with his family. He was just 52 years old.
The dominant force on the field
Allen’s impressive career spanned 12 years with the Cowboys and two with the 49ers. During that time, he earned 11 Pro Bowl nods and six first-team All-Pro selections, including a remarkable six-year streak from 1996 to 2001.
“Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL,” the Cowboys said in a statement.
Allen’s impact extended beyond his impressive stats. He was a beloved teammate, competitor, and winner, inspiring many with his dedication and work ethic.
A loving husband and father
Off the field, Allen was a devoted husband to Janelle, his “heart and soul,” and a loving father to his daughters, Jayla and Loriana, and son, Larry III.

A legendary career celebrated
Allen’s legacy will live on through his many accomplishments, including his enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
“The National Football League is filled with gifted athletes, but only a rare few have combined the size, brute strength, speed and agility of Larry Allen,” Pro Football Hall of Fame president Jim Porter said in a statement.
