The Art of Sack Mastery: Inside the Exclusive Summit for NFL’s Elite Pass Rushers

As the NFL’s top pass rushers gathered for the eighth annual Sack Summit, founded by Von Miller and now led by Maxx Crosby and Cam Jordan, it was clear that rushing the passer is a work of art that requires constant perfection. The event brings together the greats and the young blood in the NFL and college to share their mindsets and learn from each other.

“It’s never gonna be perfect,” Maxx Crosby emphasized after demonstrating a move resembling a basketball crossover. “That’s rush. That’s what makes it so beautiful.” This sentiment was echoed by Cam Jordan, who said, “The [Sack] Summit is to bring this idea that pass rush is a craft, and it is beautiful.”

The day-long event begins with breakfast at a swanky hotel, followed by two hours of field drills and more than three hours of film study. The day culminates with a table reservation at a posh nightclub. It’s a vibe to be around people with the same mindset, trying to do the same, with the same goals.

My favorite part about the event is the film session, cause we all watch film. We all try to put ourselves in other pass rushers’ shoes," Von Miller said. “But that’s the one time where the guy that we’re watching is actually telling us what’s going on.”

Each lineman relies on a different set of tools to reach the quarterback. There’s the spin guy, the long arm specialist, the swipe artist, the chop master, and those who finish with finesse. Sometimes, and frequently for those who are most successful, all techniques can be added to the arsenal.

“It’s one thing to learn and write something down, but when you actually go out there and apply it and work on it and make it come to life, that’s what makes it special,” Crosby said, who has 52 sacks over five seasons.

The Sack Summit is a testament to the idea that pass rush is a craft that requires dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn from others. As these elite pass rushers continue to perfect their art, we can’t help but be excited for the upcoming NFL season.
