The Dallas Cowboys’ Offseason Spending: A Lesson in Frugality
As the NFL offseason comes to a close, one team stands out for its frugality: the Dallas Cowboys. While other teams were busy breaking out their checkbooks, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was content to keep his wallet closed. The result? A paltry $93.4 million in spending, the lowest in the NFL.

The numbers are staggering. The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, led the league in spending with a whopping $626.5 million. The Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, and New England Patriots rounded out the top four, each committing over $400 million to their teams.
“Your definition of what is all in and mine might not be the same thing, but I’m trying to win the games this year with my decision,” Jones told reporters in March. “So I’m all in to this year.”
But what does it mean to be “all in”? For Jones, it seems to mean sitting on his hands while his stars, Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons, remain unsigned. The Cowboys’ lack of spending has been a major surprise, especially given Jones’ public stance on making 2024 an “all-in” season.

The only notable signing for the Cowboys was the reunion with running back Ezekiel Elliott, a move that hardly constitutes an “all-in” approach. Meanwhile, Parsons and Lamb have been absent from the team’s offseason program, leaving fans wondering what’s going on behind the scenes.

As the season approaches, Cowboys fans are left to wonder: what does it mean to be “all in”? Is it just a phrase, or a commitment to winning? Only time will tell.
