The NFL season is just around the corner, and with it comes the usual debates about who’s the best at each position. But one running back who’s been flying under the radar is Kyren Williams. Despite his impressive stats last season, he was ranked outside the top 17 by NFL coaches and executives.
In this article, I’ll make the case for why Williams deserves to be recognized as a top-10 back in the league.
The league’s top running backs are always a topic of discussion
Injuries have hampered Williams’ career so far, but when he’s healthy, he’s looked like one of the best in the business. Last season, he finished third in rushing yards and fifth in rushing touchdowns, despite missing five games. His 95.3 rushing yards per game were the highest in the league, and his 5.0 yards per carry were the fourth-highest among running backs.
Williams has the potential to be a top-10 back
So why did Williams receive such little respect from NFL execs and coaches? Was it because he only played 12 games last season? Or is it because they simply didn’t recognize his talent?
To put things into perspective, Williams had 199 more rushing yards than Kenneth Walker of the Seahawks, despite playing three fewer games. Alvin Kamara, who’s fallen off dramatically in the last two years, was also ranked ahead of Williams. It’s hard to understand why Williams was left out of the top 10, especially when you consider his efficiency on the field.
Williams’ stats speak for themselves
Williams may have been a one-year wonder behind a great offensive line, but the numbers don’t lie. He deserves to be heralded as a top-10 back in the NFL entering 2024.
As we head into the new season, it’ll be interesting to see if Williams can keep up his impressive form. One thing’s for sure, though - he’s definitely one to watch.
The upcoming season is full of exciting possibilities
‘When healthy, Williams has looked like one of the best in the business.’
It’s time to give Williams the recognition he deserves. He’s proven himself on the field, and now it’s time for the rest of the league to take notice.
