The NFL community is mourning the loss of three young men who were killed in a vehicle crash in Maryland on Saturday. Former Charlotte 49er Isaiah Hazel, Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, and Anthony Lytton Jr. died in the tragic accident.
Three lives cut short in a devastating car crash
As the news spread, tributes poured in from all corners of the football world. Charlotte 49ers head football coach Biff Poggi released a statement, saying, “We are heartbroken today at the news of Isaiah Hazel’s untimely passing. Our program mourns his loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with Isaiah’s family during this tragic time. All of Isaiah’s hopes and dreams were still before him, and I pray that his family is granted strength now more than ever.”
Isaiah Hazel, a talented young footballer with a bright future ahead
Hazel, Jackson, and Lytton were high school teammates who won a state championship together at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Maryland. Hazel went on to play for the Charlotte 49ers, while Jackson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in April. Lytton played collegiately at Florida State and Penn State.

The Vikings were devastated by the news of Jackson’s passing, with general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah saying, “I am heartbroken by the loss of Khyree. As we got to know him throughout the pre-draft process, it was clear the goals Khyree wanted to accomplish both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience. He was taking steps to become the best version of himself not just for him, but for those who cared about and looked up to him.”
Anthony Lytton Jr., a talented young athlete with a bright future
The accident occurred when the car driven by Hazel veered off the road and struck multiple tree stumps. Investigators believe the driver of a second vehicle traveling north attempted to change lanes at a high rate of speed, causing a collision with the car driven by Hazel and a third vehicle.
The loss of these three young men is a tragedy that will be felt throughout the football community. As we mourn their passing, we remember their talent, their passion, and their potential.
