Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins: A Contract Extension on the Horizon?
The Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa have been engaged in active contract talks, with both sides maintaining an amicable approach. According to Jeff Darlington of ESPN, the two parties have remained in consistent contact since June, working towards a new deal.

While a deal is not imminent, the fact that negotiations are ongoing is a positive sign for Dolphins fans. Tagovailoa’s regular season production has been impressive, with a 32-19 overall record and 12,639 passing yards and 81 touchdowns in his four seasons. In 2023, he threw for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns with 14 interceptions, leading Miami to an 11-6 record.
“They continue to try to get this done with a very amicable approach. It does not appear that this is going sideways by any means.” - Jeff Darlington
However, the Dolphins have been unable to replicate this success in the postseason, and Tagovailoa has only completed a full season once. This could make 2024 a prove-it year for the 26-year-old quarterback.

The contract talks are likely to be influenced by recent deals signed by other quarterbacks, such as Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence. Goff received a four-year, $212 million extension in May, while Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million extension in June. Tagovailoa’s deal is unlikely to reach these heights, but he will still be looking for a significant payday.

As the season approaches, all eyes will be on the Dolphins and Tagovailoa to see if they can come to an agreement. With both sides committed to finding a deal, it’s likely that we’ll see a resolution soon.
